Barrow Thorns Junior Basketball Club.
Hoops Basketball Centre is the home of Barrow Thorns Junior Basketball Club. The club itself was born in 1976 with players from Thorncliffe School. The club moved to Hoops on it's completion in 1998 built with funding from the National Lottery.
Since 1976, Thorns have competed at every level in junior basketball. For the forthcoming 2024/25 season, we will have 4 teams competing in Basketball England National leagues, namely U15 Boys (in U16 league) U14 Boys, U14 Girls and senior men. in addition to that we have U13 and U12 boys competing in the Basketball Northwest regional Leagues. Not currently competing but training weekly we also have U11 boys and U12 girls.
Thorns and the Hoops Centre are actively involved in promoting basketball in South Cumbria - running several different programmes and leagues for players from reception class to year 11. Working together we are providing recreational basketball for over 200 junior players every week and have built a pathway from reception class right through to adult sessions with some players diverted from a recreational route into the competitive leagues when they reach year 5. There are opportunities to play whatever your own aspirations or abilities.
